Early lead for Maumee seals fate for BG Varsity Baseball

Bowling Green Varsity Bobcats Baseball team watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 7-1 loss to Maumee on Monday.  

Maumee scored on a double by Dylan Riley in the first inning, a single by Landen Patterson in the second inning, a walk by Ayden McCarthy in the second inning, a single by Angelo Shepler in the second inning, and a single by Caden Brown in the second inning.

The Bobcats struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Maumee, giving up seven runs.

In the first inning, Maumee got their offense started.  Maumee scored two runs when Riley doubled.

Maumee scored five runs in the second inning.  Maumee’s big inning was driven by singles by Patterson, Shepler, and Brown, a walk by McCarthy, and by Sam Archambeau.

Zach Gronau got the start for Maumee. Gronau surrendered one run on six hits over seven innings, striking out three.

Brady Gaines was on the pitcher’s mound for Bowling Green. The pitcher went one and two-thirds innings, allowing seven runs on nine hits, striking out three and walking one.  Jack Brown and Brent Boston entered the game from the bullpen, throwing four and a third innings and one inning respectively.

Bowling Green totaled six hits in the game.  Brock Hastings and Luke Johnson managed multiple hits for the Bobcats.  Johnson and Hastings each managed two hits to lead Bowling Green.

Maumee tallied 15 hits.  Riley, Brown, Chase Malucci, Ben Lanier, and Patterson all had multiple hits for Maumee.  Riley led Maumee with three hits in four at bats.
