Escaped convict found dead in Kentucky

The body of escaped murderer Bradley Gillespie was found Sunday, shortly after noon in the Ohio River in Henderson, Kentucky.

The Henderson (Kentucky) Police Department said preliminary reports confirm the body was that of Gillespie who escaped a week ago (May 22) from the Allen/Oakwood Correctional Institution in Lima. 

Gillespie escaped with James Lee, who was convicted of burglary. Lee was apprehended on May 23.

Gillespie was imprisoned after being convicted of two murders. The investigation on how he and Lee escaped is continuing.

An autopsy to confirm Gillespie’s identification will be conducted in a few days, Henderson Police said.

Police reported that the last time Gillespie had been seen about 3:19 a.m. on the morning of May 23 when he fled. The search has been ongoing in the Henderson area since then including a house-to-house canvas of homes.
