Bowling Green Police Division arrested a Findlay man for resisting arrest and endangering a child after he picked up a student from Conneaut Elementary when school got out on Friday afternoon.
Brian Wingate, 35, was also charged with driving under suspension, falsification and on arrest warrants from adult parole and Findlay Police Department. He was taken to Wood County Jail.
A BGPD officer was monitoring the school zone around 3:40 p.m., when he saw a Volvo that had been reported to be driven by Wingate, who was wanted by the Adult Parole Authority.
The officer followed as Wingate made a stop at the Beverage Center on Haskins Road, then drove to an apartment in the 1000 block of Fairview Avenue. The officer approached the Volvo, and addressed Wingate, who reportedly denied being Wingate. According to the police report, Wingate gave a different name and said he didn’t know his Social Security number.
The officer then noticed a boy, age 7, in the back seat of the Volvo. Wingate reportedly rolled up his window, and the officer advised other units that there was a juvenile in the back seat.
An officer arrived and placed a device by one of the tires to keep the car from moving. Wingate was reportedly told he was under arrest and was asked several times to exit the vehicle, which he refused to do. Wingate was also asked to let the boy exit the car, so he could be arrested outside his presence, which he also refused to do.
An officer spoke with the principal at Conneaut Elementary to get a contact for the boy in the back of the car. Wingate’s name reportedly was not on any forms as someone who should pick him up from school.
The boy’s grandparents came to the scene to get the boy.
At approximately 4:11 p.m., Wingate exited the car and was arrested.
