Frances I Bockbrader

Frances Irene (Long) Bockbrader passed on to her eternal home with the Lord on Thursday, January 5, 2017. Frances was born February 4, 1923 to James F. and Anna (Hagemeyer) Long, in Portage, Ohio. The youngest of 5 girls, she shared many stories of her life growing up on the Cloverdale Road farm. On February 27, 1946, she married Donald F. Bockbrader, in the Cloverdale Evangelical United Brethern Church. Following Don’s return from WWII, they enjoyed years in the restaurant business. She was a wonderful cook throughout her lifetime! Frances went on to earn her BS in Education from BGSU, and then enjoyed a teaching career at Westwood, Milton and the majority of her teaching career at Crim Elementary in Bowling Green, teaching 4th grade. It was always a special time for her when any of her many prior students would reach out to her with a story or memory from her class. She especially enjoyed reading to her students each day. Upon retirement, she enjoyed trips to visit her children and grand children and especially enjoyed a trip throughout Europe with her daughter Nancy. In her spare time she enjoyed playing bridge and she was an avid reader.

She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Alpha Delta Pi Sorority and King’s Daughters. Frances is survived by her son K. Nathan (Lucia) Bockbrader, daughter Nicola (William) Kale, Son-In-Law, Dr. David McCallie, Jr., Also surviving are 6 grandchildren Katelin (Joe) Smith – Bowling Green, Kelsie (Brett) Salyers – Cygnet, Andrew McCallie – Los Angeles, Anna McCallie – London, England, Cameron McCallie – New York City, and Mariah Bockbrader – Columbus. There are also 4 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Her cherished memories were the days spent with family. Frances was predeceased by her parents, husband Don, daughter Nancy Jo McCallie, and sisters Verna Amos, Ada Benschoter, Ruth Houser and Esther Ricard. A Celebration of Life is being planned for this spring and will be announced later with details. Memorial suggestions include: Trinity United Methodist Church (Bowling Green), Cloverdale United Methodist Church (Bowling Green), The Wood County District Public Library, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
