Gavarone-supported bill creates barriers voting for qualified citizens

Senator Gavarone hastily threw together a voting reform bill that Governor DeWine was given to sign. If it becomes law, newly registered Ohioans who have an out-of-state driver’s license won’t be able to vote.

Ballot drop boxes will only be open during business hours. People who can walk to the building but have trouble standing in long lines can’t use curbside voting. Absentee ballots that were delayed in the mail will be less likely to be counted.

Go figure this one: An elderly person who doesn’t have postage CAN give an absentee ballot to a grandchild to take to the post office, stand in line to get postage, and then mail it to the Board of Elections. However, it would be ILLEGAL for that grandchild to take the ballot directly to the Board of Elections.

Secretary of State LaRose stated that elections in Ohio are secure and voter fraud is rare. The additional barriers to voting will only prevent qualified citizens from voting. Please immediately call or email Governor DeWine and ask him to veto HB 458.
