“Grease” is the word this summer in Grand Rapids.

After a five-year hiatus, the Grand Rapids Historical Society is reviving  the quarter-century-long tradition of producing a summer musical.

The performances of “Grease” will be on Friday, July 7, and Saturday, July 8 at 7 p.m. (doors open at 6:30 p.m.), and on Sunday, July 9 at 2 p.m. (doors open at 1:30 p.m.) at the historic Town Hall on Front Street.

Tickets cost $12 for adults and $10 for students and seniors and are available for purchase at The Village Orchard in Grand Rapids, Tiedtke’s Coffee in Maumee, and will also be available at the door before the performances. “You are the one that we want to see in the audience next weekend.”

The show features cast and crew hailing from multiple local high schools, colleges, and communities in Northwest Ohio.

Originally built in 1898, the Grand Rapids Town Hall has hosted everything from plays and musicals to knife-throwing acts and tooth extractions to high school graduations and mayor’s court activities.

After being used as a storage facility for several decades in the mid-twentieth century, the Grand Rapids community worked hard to update and restore the historic building for its bicentennial celebration in 1976. Since then, the historic venue has hosted numerous local, regional, and national acts, and silent movies.

In addition, over twenty-five summer musicals have been performed on the Town Hall’s stage thanks to the support of the Grand Rapids Historical Society and the Grand Rapids community.
