From WOOD COUNTY AUDITOR’S OFFICE
Approximately 7,000 homestead exemption renewal notices have been mailed to eligible homeowners throughout Wood County, according to Matthew Oestreich, Wood County auditor. If there are no changes in an applicant’s status, the form does not need to be returned. Homeowners needing assistance with the renewal process may contact the auditor’s office at 419-373-4917.
In Wood County, the homestead program saves taxpayers nearly $3.1 million annually. Those savings are fully reimbursed by the state of Ohio, ensuring that local schools and other taxing entities do not lose revenue as a result of the program. The homestead exemption is available for both real estate property and mobile homes.
There are two types of homestead exemptions available.
Standard homestead exemption
The standard homestead exemption exempts $29,000 of a home’s market value from taxation.
Qualifications include:
- Senior citizens aged 65 and older or the surviving spouse of a previous recipient or permanently and totally disabled citizens
- Total household income does not exceed $41,000 for 2026 applications
- Applicant must own and occupy the home as principal residence as of Jan. 1, 2026
Enhanced homestead exemption
The enhanced homestead exemption exempts $58,000 of a home’s market value from taxation.
Qualifications include:
- Disabled veterans approved by the VA as 100% service-connected disabled or individually unemployable
- Surviving spouses of first responders killed in the line of duty
- No age or income restrictions
- Applicant must own and occupy the home as principal residence as of Jan. 1, 2026
Residents who believe they may qualify for either exemption are encouraged to contact the auditor’s office for additional information or download an application from the Wood County auditor’s website at https://auditor.co.wood.oh.us/forms/.
Applications may also be submitted online by searching for the parcel on the Wood County auditor’s real estate property search page and selecting the appropriate form under the “Applications” section at the bottom of the page.
