I-75 crash results in death of unborn child and multiple injuries to others

Troopers from the Bowling Green Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol are investigating an injury crash that occurred on Interstate 75, south of Cygnet Road in Wood County, on Wednesday. The accident resulted in multiple injuries and the death of an unborn child.

At approximately 3 p.m., a 2005 Chevrolet Aveo, a 2013 Toyota Prius and a 2017 Volvo commercial tractor-trailer were traveling north on I-75. The Chevrolet Aveo lost control and drove off the left side of the roadway. The driver overcorrected and re-entered the roadway, driving into the path of the Toyota Prius.

The Prius struck the Aveo and the Volvo commercial tractor-trailer. The Prius overturned and came to rest on its top.

The Aveo was operated by Eric R. Ramirez, 22, of Findlay. Ramirez was not wearing his seat belt when the crash occurred. He suffered minor injuries and was transported by EMS to Wood County Hospital.

Lori Cox, a passenger in Ramirez’s car, was trapped in the vehicle and extricated by mechanical means. Cox was transported by Lifeflight to St. Vincent’s Medical Center with serious injuries. Cox was pregnant at the time of the crash. Her unborn child was pronounced deceased at St. Vincent’s Medical Center.

The Prius was operated by Maria K. Simon, 54, of Bowling Green. She was wearing her seat belt when the crash occurred, suffered minor injuries and was transported by EMS to Blanchard Valley Hospital. Marc V. Simon, 54, of Bowling Green, was a front seat passenger in the Prius. He was wearing his seat belt when the crash occurred, suffered minor injuries and was transported by EMS to Blanchard Valley Hospital.

Mary C. Roemer, 78, of South Bend, Indiana, was seated in the backseat of the Prius. She was wearing her seat belt when the crash occurred, and was transported by Lifeflight to St. Vincent’s Medical Center with serious injuries.

The truck was operated by E. Lawrence Reevers, 61, of Birmingham, Alabama. Reevers was wearing his seat belt when the crash occurred and he was not injured.

Impairment by alcohol and/or drugs is not believed to be a factor.

The crash remains under investigation.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the North Baltimore Fire & EMS, Lifeflight, Ohio Department of Transportation, BG Towing and Wright’s Towing.
