James Robert Hammon went to be with our Lord on January 30, 2024. Born to Kathleen (Barnhill) and Robert Hammon on June 5, 1945 in Defiance, Ohio, Jim attended Defiance High School, graduating in 1963. After graduation, he went to work at the Crescent News where he met the love of his life, Marilyn. They married in 1969 and went on to have 4 beautiful daughters.
After the Crescent News, Jim worked for Rinks department store in Defiance and then was transferred to Bowling Green, where the family settled in 1973. Upon Rinks’s closure, he worked for other retail outlets, rounding out his management career with Wendy’s and ultimately retiring from Sam’s Club in 2010.
Jim was an avid Ohio State fan his entire life and was excited to attend several football games while his daughter, Chrissy, was in the Ohio State Marching Band. His favorite thing to do was discuss Buckeye games and coaching decisions with whoever would listen. He was a born again Christian and loved his church family, Bridge Fellowship, in North Baltimore, OH.
A father to 4, grandfather to 8, and great-grandfather to 1, Jim is leaving behind many loved ones with cherished memories. He is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn (Flint) Hammon; daughters Missy (Kevin) Vestal, Lisa (Scott) Yoder, Denise (Chris) Huber, Chrissy (Greg) Miller; grandchildren Meghan (Adam) Deitrick, Cassidy (Ernest) Judd, Grant and Gillian Yoder, Olivia and Matthew Huber, Emily and Victoria Miller; great-grandchild Makenna Deitrick; and sister Judy (Hammon) Hohenberger. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, and sister, Mary (Hammon) Cameron. He was very proud of all of his girls, and his grandchildren and great-grandchild were his pride and joy.
Contributions in Jim’s honor may be gifted to Bridge Fellowship Church, 117 N Tarr St, North Baltimore, OH 45872
