Judith Newman

Judith Newman was born August 22, 1940 in Manhattan, New York City and died at Bridge Hospice in Bowling Green, OH on September 27, 2016. She was preceded in death by her mother, and father, Louise and Daniel Fabrizio and her sister, Dana Golde.

In 1957 she graduated from Hunter High School in Manhattan and received a Regents Scholarship to New York University in Manhattan. She enrolled as a mathematics major and chemistry minor. At NYU she met her husband David Newman and they were married June 22, 1959. In June they celebrated their 57th anniversary.

In 1960 they moved to Philadelphia, PA where David pursued a PH.D in Chemistry at the University of Pennsylvania. In Philadelphia Judith enrolled as a History major at St. Joseph University and received her BA in 1963. In 1964 they moved to Princeton, New Jersey where her husband received a Post Doctoral Fellowship at Princeton University. In 1965 they moved to Bowling Green, OH, where her husband was hired as an Assistant Professor in the Chemistry Department. Judith enrolled in the History Department to obtain a Masters Degree. After a year as a History major, she decided to return to her love of science and enrolled in the Master’s Program in Computer Science. She then transferred to computer programming and science writing and obtained 138

hours of graduate credit. At BGSU she set up the computer science lab in the Chemistry Department.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by four children: Lisa Newman (Roger Jack) of Philadelphia, PA, Andrea Newman of Miami, FL, Tim (Pamela) Newman of Bowling Green, OH, Matthew (Amy) Newman of Toledo, OH, and four grandsons: Ben Mehling of Bowling Green, OH, Tyler Newman of Charleston, SC, Ben Jack of Austin, TX, and Nathan Jack- Lieutenant US Army.

In Lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation, the National Kidney Disease Foundation or to Planned Parenthood in her name.

Final arrangements are being made by Dunn Funeral Home. She will be cremated. Her ashes will be scattered at her beloved second home, our trout farm outside of West Branch, MI. There will be no ceremony.
