Latta makes the grade on anti-abortion group’s scorecard

U.S. Rep. Bob Latta in May, 2019

U.S. Rep. Bob Latta, R-OH, has received an A+ on the anti-abortion Susan B. Anthony List’s Nation Pro-Life Scorecard. This new score takes into account votes and actions for every member of Congress for the first session of the 117th Congress.

Included in this year’s score card is co-sponsorship of Latta’s legislation, the Support and Value Expectant (SAVE) Moms and Babies Act.  According to Latta’s office the legislation “would prohibit the FDA from approving new abortion drugs or allowing these dangerous drugs to be made available by mail or telemedicine.”

Latta was also a signatory on a letter opposing “the FDA’s decision to allow physicians to prescribe chemical abortion drugs during the pandemic via telemedicine visits.”

Latta voted along with the group’s recommendations 100 percent of the time.

That included voting against the American Rescue Plan Act, the voting rights legislation the For the People Act and John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act of 2021, extending the deadline to approve the Equal Rights Amendment, the Family Violence Prevention and Services Improvement Act, the Women’s Health Protection Act of 2021, and the Build Back Better Act.

The grading fell along partisan lines with virtually every Republican earning an A+ and virtually every Democrat earning an F, including Marcy Kaptur, D-OH. Click to see scorecard. Five GOP representatives received lower scores with Brian Fitzpatrick, of Pennsylvania First District receiving, a D.

In the Senate, Democrat Joe Manchin of West Virginia with a B, was the only one in his party, including Sherrod Brown of Ohio,  not to receive an F. Republicans Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska both earned Ds. Ohio’s Rob Portman received an A+ The Senate’s two independents Bernie Sanders of Vermont and Angus King of Maine, also earned Fs.

In the press release announcing his rating, Latta stated: “The right to life is the ultimate right because without it, there would be no basis for all other rights. I am proud to have earned an A+ on the Susan B. Anthony List’s Pro-Life Scorecard for my work to protect and defend the lives of the unborn as well as the safety and wellbeing of mothers and babies. I will continue my work in Congress to protect the lives of the innocent children and to be a champion for life in the 117th Congress and beyond.”
