Leontis, Hollenbaugh win in Democratic primary

Neocles Leontis has defeated incumbent Bruce Jeffers in the Democratic primary for an at-large City Council seat.

Leontis garnered 569 votes, or about 55 percent of the vote, to Jeffers’ 462 votes.

Leontis, a chemistry professor at Bowling Green State University, will not have a Republican opponent in November, though Joseph DeMare is circulating petitions as an independent candidate.

In the First Ward, incumbent Mark Hollenbaugh won with 37 votes over two challengers Connor Goodpaster, 30 votes, and Madison Stump, 17.

Hollenbaugh was appointed to council n November to fill the vacancy caused by Daniel Gordon’s resignation.

There will be no Republican candidate in November, though an independent may still file.
