With parking lot construction ended, Wood County District Public Library has issued a reminder that cars parked in the lot between 11:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. each night are subject to being towed. This is strictly enforced.
The library began towing in 2012 in response to repeated requests from the Bowling Green police to close library lots after hours since the lots were becoming a focal point of late-night criminal activity (drugs, fights, and assaults). Since WCDPL implemented towing in accordance with all requirements of the Ohio Revised Code, the police no longer have to spend hours in the lots at night, library property is no longer damaged, and the library has been able to avoid having 10-15 broken beer bottles in the lots each morning.
Restricted hours are only from 11p.m. to 5 a.m., to allow residents to still be able to park as much as possible to enjoy downtown shopping and dining. This was the library’s way of balancing the need to maintain safety later at night when the police were experiencing calls to the library’s lots.
