‘LivelyU Lifelong Learning Academy’ offers programs on the Amish, bird watching, medical ethics and more

The LivelyU Lifelong Learning Academy is a platform of programming offered through the Wood County Committee on Aging in partnership with the Bowling Green State University Optimal Aging Institute. 

The academy is designed to enhance programming with opportunities for lifelong learning. Academy courses focus on education, engagement and life enrichment and are facilitated by volunteer instructors with a passion for their chosen subjects.

Courses are intended to be enjoyable, stimulating, learning for the joy of learning and offer opportunities for social engagement for all registrants.

The Spring Semester will run from March through May and will include the following courses:

  • Who Are the Amish? by Lynn Wineland, Self-titled Historian
  • Short Story Boot Camp by Joseph Elia, English Major, BGSU
  • County Courts by Judge Joel Kuhlman
  • Don Quixote by Liliana Rossi, Ph.D. Spanish Literature
  • Diversity and the LGBTQ+ Community by Eric Myers, BGSU
  • Gallery Group by Michael Coomes and Sally Drier, Docents
  • Travelogue: Travel Basics by Judy Pfaffenberger, experienced traveler
  • Nutrition and You by Laura Brubaker, MFN, RDN, LD
  • Famous Visitors to Perrysburg by Richard Baranowski, Local History Librarian
  • Medical Ethics by Lou Katzner, Trustee Professor Emeritus of Philosophy
  • Mindfulness in Nature by Emma Taylor, CIG, CMT-P
  • University of Findlay’s Mazza Museum by Vicki Knauerhase, Docent
  • Binder of a Lifetime by Steve Long, Memory Missionary
  • Age-isms by Wendy Watson. Ph.D.
  • Spanish Language I by Liliana Rossi, Ph.D. Spanish Literature
  • Turning Family Stories into Poetry by Dr. Sandra L. Faulkner, BGSU
  • Introduction to Bird Watching by John Kusnier, Ornithologist
  • An Immigrant’s Story by Genevieve Geha Kirkbride, Immigrant
  • Identifying Architectural Structures by Heidi Reger, Architect
  • Creating Calligraphy by Jacqueline Metz, Self-taught Calligraphist

To take part in LivelyU courses, a semester tuition fee of $20 is required. This tuition payment will give participants access to any courses offered for the calendar year. Registrants need to then register for the courses they are interested in attending.
