A man caught on a downtown camera stealing a truck Sunday afternoon was recognized by an employee of the Wood County jail – where he had just left.
Michael Kolodzaike, 62, of Weston, was arrested Monday for reportedly stealing a pickup truck that was parked on the street in the 100 block of East Wooster Street. The truck was unlocked and the keys were in it, since the owner was using it for loading and unloading.
Cameras in the downtown area caught images of a man getting in the truck and driving it away.
Bowling Green Police received a tip from a county jail employee, who said the man in the photos had just been released from jail.
According to BG Police Lt. Dan Mancuso, Kolodzaike stole the pickup from downtown and drove it to a lot at the corner of Maple Street and Sand Ridge Road, where his vehicle had been towed when he went to jail.
Kolodzaike reportedly picked up his vehicle and left the stolen pickup.
Kolodzaike was charged with theft of a motor vehicle and taken back to the jail.
