A resident of a group home for developmentally delayed individuals was arrested Sunday after he reportedly punched a Bowling Green police officer in the chest.

Police were called to the 900 block of Scott Hamilton Avenue around 5 p.m. for a possible assault. A staff member told the officer that Michael Anthony Budd, 33, got upset when he had to wait for cake to be cut. Budd reportedly knocked the cake onto the ground, then picked up a chair and threw it at the staff member and another resident of the home.

Budd was sitting outside while the officer talked with the staff member. When the officer began to walk toward Budd, he reportedly looked at the officer then turned to walk inside the house. The officer told Budd to stop, but he kept walking.

When the officer caught up to Budd and grabbed his arm to place him into custody, Budd reportedly turned around and punched the officer in the chest.

Budd was arrested for assault and taken to the Wood County Jail. Assault of a peace officer is a felony of the fourth degree.
