Motorcyclist arrested for reportedly exceeding 75 mph and running red light in BG

A motorcyclist was arrested Saturday (Sept. 2) around 1 a.m., after reportedly reaching speeds of more than 75 mph and running a red light on South Main Street.

Jeffrey Shook, 25, Tiffin, was charged with willful/wanton disregard for public safety/reckless operation, failure to comply, violation of temporary motorcycle permit, motorcycle safety equipment, traffic control device-red traffic light, and OVI refusal.

A Bowling Green Police Officer was at the four corners downtown, when the motorcycle went through the intersection at a high rate of speed. The southbound motorcyclist failed to stop for the police, and continued accelerating. As he neared the intersection of South Main Street and Napoleon Road, the operator looked both ways for traffic and back at police cars following him, then ran through the red light. An officer reached speeds of 75 mph, and the motorcycle was pulling away.

Shook then slowed and pulled into the driveway to Walmart in the 1000 block of South Main Street. Shook was reportedly unsteady on his feet, had glassy eyes and a strong odor of alcohol. He refused to submit to a breath test. He was taken to Wood County Jail.
