Museum hosts ‘Early Ohio on the Portage River’ reenactment

The  Wood County Museum will host a “Early Ohio on the Portage River” Friday May 5,  10 a.m. to  – 3 p.m., Saturday May 6, 10 a.m. to dusk, and Sunday May 7 from 10 a.m. to  3 p.m. This is a free event.

The living history event features costumed interpreters portraying life during the exploration of the Northwest Territory and the Ohio Country, especially along and near the Portage River in Wood County.  

Experience early European settlers, indigenous people, military and political growth, and home life activities through period reenactors from 1750s to 1860s.  

Folk music wil be performed by  Hand Hewn. On Saturday an Evening lantern tour will be conducted at 8:30   Schools and groups welcomed on Friday May 5t.

 Sponsored by the Maumee Valley Heritage Corridor.  

The Museum is still closed and undergoing repairs from 11 radiators breaking and leaking throughout the building last December.  The Museum’s grounds are open along with several outbuildings including the Lunatic Asylum, Pestilence House, and the Ice House.  

A Food Truck, Big Daddy’s Sausage House will be available for food and beverage sales through the weekend. Restrooms also available on site.
