Otsego grad & parent: Supporting school is critical for students’ & community’s future

I am writing to express my strong support for the upcoming Otsego school levy that will be on the ballot on March 19th. As a concerned citizen, parent, and alumna believe that investing in our schools is vital for the well-being and success of our children and the future of our community.

Quality education is the cornerstone of a prosperous society. It not only provides students with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in life but also fosters critical thinking, creativity, and a sense of civic responsibility. By supporting this levy, we are ensuring that our schools have the resources necessary to offer a high-quality education that prepares students for the challenges of the 21st century.

Furthermore, adequate funding for our schools is essential for attracting and retaining qualified teachers, maintaining safe and up-to-date facilities, and offering a wide range of extracurricular activities and support services for students. These are all crucial components of a well-rounded education that meets the diverse needs of our student population.

I understand that some members of our community may have concerns about the financial impact of this levy. However, I believe that the long-term benefits of investing in our schools far outweigh any short-term costs. Otsego has not asked for an operational levy since 2002. A strong school system creates opportunities for our children to thrive and succeed which Otsego has been doing for years without the additional support from the community. They are asking for our help now, after twenty years, and we owe it to them to support them.

In conclusion, I urge my fellow community members to join me in voting “yes” for the school levy. Together, we can ensure that our schools have the resources they need to provide an excellent education for all students, now and in the future.

Sincerely,

Lauren Tiell EdD
