As a proud member of the Otsego community, I am continually inspired by the spirit of unity and dedication that defines our district. Like any unit, we face our fair share of challenges, but it is through our collective efforts and commitment to leaving a positive legacy that we continue to thrive.
Generations before us laid the foundation upon which we stand today, and it is our responsibility to build upon their legacy and ensure that Otsego continues to flourish for generations to come. As a 2005 alumnus, I experienced firsthand the challenges of operating levies, one-campus campaigns, and bond issues that repeatedly faced our district’s voters during my time as a student. Those were tough times for our community, and they’re not scenarios I want my children to face at Otsego.
While thousands of alumni have benefited from the exceptional education and financial stewardship provided by Otsego, we must also focus on the needs of today’s students, and future generations and prioritize initiatives that will shape the future of our community.
At the forefront of our priorities is funding our school’s operating budget. Upon approval this March 19, we can continue to focus on robust curriculum, maintaining facilities, and retaining teachers and staff. All these units support the core mission of our public school in youth development, student engagement, and community growth. Investing in youth through education is essential to nurturing the next generation of leaders and innovators. By providing them with the resources, support, and opportunities they need to succeed, we can empower them to reach their full potential and make meaningful contributions to our community.
Fostering student engagement is crucial for creating a sense of belonging and ownership within our schools and neighborhoods. When students are actively involved in decision-making processes and community initiatives, they develop a deeper appreciation for the importance of civic responsibility and collective action.
As we navigate the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead, let us remember that our actions today will shape the future of Otsego for generations to come. By prioritizing your investment in education with your yes vote, we can ensure that Otsego remains a place we are proud to call home and every student has an opportunity to thrive.
