Parklets pop up again in downtown BG

Kelly and Laura Wicks set out tables and chairs in the parklet on South Main Street.

The parklets are back in downtown Bowling Green. The installation occurred today outside Grounds for Thought, Juniper Brewing, and Kabob-It. Ellen Fure Smith, artist and owner of Little Bare Furniture and Parklet Project member,  designed and built the parklets with the assistance of faculty and staff in the School of Art’s Integrated Studio.

Ellen Fure Smith works on installing parklet in front of Juniper Brewing on Friday morning.

This year they have been refreshed with new colors and new wooden planking on the floor. Smith said the flooring from last year’s will be used in the three new parklets that will be added later to downtown

In addition to support from more than 70 individuals and local businesses, this year’s parklets are being funded by a $50,000 grant from T-Mobile’s Hometown Grant Program.

Zach Tracy, of Juniper Brewing Company, helps put in parklet.
