Paul Eckhardt, Sr.

Paul Eckhardt Sr., loving husband, father, and friend, 82, of Weston, Ohio passed away Friday, December 29, 2017.

Paul was born in Toledo, Ohio to the late Harry and Geneva (Stinehart) Eckhardt. Married the love of his life, Joan Bateson, who survives him, at the Church of Christ in Wayne, Ohio on September 14, 1958. Along with his wife, Paul is survived by his daughters: Faye Haskill of Toledo, Ohio; and Dianne Bloom of Bowling Green, Ohio; a son: Paul Eckhardt Jr. of Bowling Green, Ohio; 7 grandchildren: and 7 great-grandchildren. Along with his parents Paul was preceded in death by his brothers: Jack, Kenny, and Robert Eckhardt; and sister: Marge Leimgruber.

Paul worked as a tumbler at Ottawa Rubber Company for 42 years. In his younger years he developed a strong work ethic, working as a caddy at a golf course and setting up pins at a bowling alley. He saved up the money he earned to be the first in his family to buy a car. Paul never missed a day of work and was self-taught, graduating from “The School of Hard Knocks”. He enjoyed western movies, collecting coffee mugs, and playing shuffleboard. Paul took the family camping to the state parks all around Ohio and was a member of the National Campers and Hikers Association. In his later years, Paul and Joan lived down in Florida where he would take “Penny”, his beloved dog, for rides on his 3-wheel bicycle. Paul was a member of Mount Zion United Brethren and loved his church. He will be dearly missed.

Visitation for Paul will be held on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 from 9:00 AM until the time of his funeral service at 11:00 AM in the DECK-HANNEMAN FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY REMEMBRANCE CHAPEL, 1460 W Wooster Street, P.O. Box 648, Bowling Green, Ohio 43402, Tele: 419-352-2171. Interment will immediately follow in the Wood County Memory Gardens.
