“Peg” D Lucille Krueger

“Peg” D. Lucille Krueger, 95, of Liberty Center, Ohio passed away September 21, 2016. Peg was born June 12, 1921, to I. Leonard and Lucy (Showman) Johnson in Texas, Ohio. Peg married Charles Krueger on April 19, 1941, who preceded her in death on July 17, 1968.

Peg graduated from Liberty Center High School in1939. Marrying her one great love, Charlie Krueger, she became a farmwife and raised her family. Peg would collect donations for the American Cancer Society for many years in the area. Widowed at the age of 47 she became a cook at the Maumee Youth Camp, retiring after 10 years. Retirement for Peg began several decades of volunteerism. Peg and her sister Pat were a constant presence in the community as they popped corn for the L.C. football games, helped with the VFW feather parties, worked at the Red Cross blood donations, helped operate the breakfast shift at the Sharon Church stand at the Henry County Fair, and then autumn would find the sisters peeling apples and helping in food stands at the Grand Rapids Applebutter Fest. If there was a need, the sisters would be there to help.

Peg’s spirit of adventure would take her around the globe to Hong Kong, China, Hawaii, Costa Rica, and many other locations. She loved pulling the slots in Las Vegas, leaf peeping in New England and the Midwest, and visiting with the Amish in Holmes County.

Peg was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Grand Rapids Historical Society.  Her greatest love was spending time with her family, especially the grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews and nieces.

Peg is survived by her children: Jim (Stephanie) Krueger of Costa Rica; Judy Dennis of Liberty Center; Mike (Nita) Krueger of Liberty Center; Ken (Marlyn) Krueger of Napoleon, Ohio; six grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.

Peg was also preceded in death by her brother Leland Johnson and sister Lillian “Pat” Langel.
