The City of Bowling Green is seeking input to improve the connectivity and safety of the multi-modal transportation network across the city. Community members are encouraged to provide feedback focusing on the North Main Street Corridor, from Napoleon Road to Newton Road, by completing the online survey linked on the city’s homepage: www.bgohio.org.
The online survey will be live and open for comment until Feb. 7.
The gathered feedback will be reviewed by local planning consultants Mannik and Smith Group, along with the Alta Planning Team, who have been assisting the city with the Main Street Pedestrian & Bicycle Safety Improvement Study. The purpose of this study is to analyze the corridor for improvements that could be made to enhance the safety for pedestrians and bicyclists traveling and crossing the roadway.
This study is the most recent in a series of actions aimed at improving the safety for pedestrians and bicyclists in Bowling Green. Recent accomplishments include the addition of safer pedestrian crossings in multiple areas, with additional installations planned for 2025, the completion of the Safe Routes to School Transportation Plan, and the completion of a Transportation Safety Action Plan in partnership with the Lucas County Engineer’s Office.
The city has also secured funding assistance to install a shared use path along Brim Road, connecting the Bowling Green High School to the Community Center and Cogan’s Crossing, a shared use path along South Main Street as part of the infrastructure improvement project, a shared use path along North Main Street, as part of a joint Safe Routes for All regional partnership with Lucas, Ottawa and Sandusky counties, and a shared use path near Crim Elementary, as part of the City’s Safe Routes to Schools initiatives. The Bicycle Safety Commission also continues its education efforts to promote safe bicycling throughout the community.
