Registration Open for HYT Winter Workshops

Horizon Youth Theatre is pleased to announce our 2023 Winter Workshops. Registration is open for three classes, the first of which begins on January 7. A fourth, Cassie Greenlee’s Directing Workshop, will guide four high schoolers through directing one act plays for The Festival of Shorts and is accepting applications for enrollment (see below for details). FESTIVAL OF SHORTS DEVISING CLASS
Cost: $100.00
Ages: 9-18 Years Old
Dates and Times: Saturdays, January 7 to March 4,  9:30 – 11:30 a.m.
Place: First Presbyterian Church, 126 S. Church Street, BG – 2nd floor classroom
Instructor: Keith Guion

Description: Students will create their own characters and craft a one-act play from the original idea through performance in March with the guidance and direction of instructor Keith Guion. Participants in the devising workshop are guaranteed a spot in completed play which will be performed at HYT’s Festival of Shorts, March 10 – 12. Students will have a voice in the final theme of the show, as well as a direct role in writing and performing it. This workshop will emphasize cooperation, character and plot development, performance and writing skills, and creativity in presenting a show on stage. Please note: participants in this workshop are the ONLY guaranteed performers at the Festival of Shorts.

Additional rehearsals may be added outside of class time as the Festival of Shorts approaches, particularly during Tech Week. All such rehearsals will be announced in writing well in advance.

INTRODUCTION TO THEATRE
Cost: $100.00
Ages: 6-10 Years Old
Dates and Times: Saturdays, January 21 through March 11 (eight sessions), 1:00 – 2:30 pm
Place: Trinity United Methodist Church, 200 N. Summit Street, Bowling Green
Instructor: Grace Whetstone, a 19 year old sophomore at BGSU, who has been involved in more than 20 musicals, a TV show, and a movie. Contact her with questions at gwhetst@bgsu.edu.

Description: Students will learn all of the components it takes to be a part of a production. Through this class, we will learn about auditioning, teamwork, theatre games, focus, and crafting a performance. When learning all of these tools, students will be hands-on and even craft their own performance to demonstrate these skills. This is a perfect workshop for anyone from age 6 to 10 and will be a fun, exciting, creative way for all students to be able to use their imaginations and get excited about theatre!

INTRODUCTION TO MUSICAL THEATRE
Cost: $100.00
Ages: 10 – 14 years old
Dates and Times: Saturdays, January 21 to February 25 (six sessions), 12:00 – 2:00 pm
Place: Trinity United Methodist Church, 200 N. Summit St, Bowling Green
Instructor: Lexi Hough, BGSU student with years of experience in theatre. Contact her with questions at ahough@bgsu.edu.

Description: Learn some of the basics of performing for musical theater! This workshop will teach students how to combine acting and singing for the stage, with tips that are useful for both auditions and performances alike. Students will get both group and focused one-on-one instruction that will bolster their confidence and refine their skills.

Ages: High School only
Dates and Times: Saturdays, January 7 to March 4, 10:00 am -12:00 pm

Instructor: Cassie Greenlee

Description: In signing up for this class, you are signing up to be a student director for a one act at HYT’s 2023 Festival of Shorts. The directing class is designed to teach you how to analyze a script and direct a short play, with the very tangible end goal and product of a One Act that will be performed in front of many people in March. The class can take only four students, and applications are being accepted now. Filling out an application does NOT guarantee you a spot in the class. Applications must be submitted by December 11.
