Rodney Lee Duty passed away on Saturday February 4, 2017 at the age of 63.
He was born in Bowling Green, Ohio on July 13, 1953 to Laurel and Lou Ellen Duty who preceded him in death. Rod is survived by Fran Duty, his daughter Heather Brickner of Grand Haven, Mi; grandchildren: Elisabeth and Ethan Brickner (their father, Andrew Brickner) of Lemoyne, OH; his brothers: Jim (Bonnie) Duty of Weston, OH; and Roy (Linda) Duty of Los Lunas, NM; nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by brothers: Danny and Mike Duty.
Rod proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and was employed for many years as an auto mechanic in the Bowling Green and Toledo areas. This included 20 years as a mechanic and delivery driver for Speck Sales in Bowling Green. Among his hobbies, he most enjoyed gardening and growing trees. He often worked late into the evening, as time would totally slip away from him while he was in his yard creating a habitat that attracted many types of birds and butterflies. This interest later expanded to becoming a seasonal employee at Bostdsorff’s Greenhouse in Bowling Green. He was proud that he was one of the original group of the Eastwood Class of ’71 to start meeting monthly for group dinners in area restaurants. He encouraged all to come and enjoy renewing old acquaintances.
Visitation for Rod will be on Wednesday February 8, 2017 from 4:00-8:00 PM in the Deck-Hanneman Funeral Home & Crematory, 1460 W. Wooster St, P.O Box 648, Bowling Green, Ohio 43402, where his Celebration of Life Service with Military Honors’ will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday February 9, 2017.
