Bowling Green Police Division arrested a Rossford man shortly after midnight Tuesday for driving under the influence and improper handling of a firearm.

Joseph Hill, 22, was pulled over in front of Carter Park when an officer did not see a visible license plate on the back of his 2022 Honda.

When the officer approached the vehicle, he observed a handgun sitting on the dashboard of the passenger side. The driver immediately told the officer he had a CCW permit.

The firearm, a Glock 43 9mm handgun, had a six-round magazine with one bullet in the gun’s chamber.

The officer reported smelling a strong odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle, and noted the driver had watery eyes. The driver reportedly said he just left a bar, where he consumed one beer more than an hour earlier.

During field sobriety tests, the officer noted several indicators of intoxication. Hill reportedly then told the officer that he had consumed three beers over the course of several hours.

Hill was taken to the police station, where he consented to a breath test, which reportedly registered 0.145 blood alcohol content. Hill was cited for driving under the influence of alcohol, improper display of license plates and improper handling of firearms while intoxicated. His driver’s license was seized and he was taken to Wood County jail.
