RV driver leads troopers on chase through 3 counties

A chase of a recreational vehicle through three counties ended with the driver being arrested in Lima.

Troopers from the Bowling Green Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to Interstate 75 Tuesday around 10:49 p.m., after being notified by the Toledo Police Department that it had been in pursuit of a 2000 Hurricane RV, which was occupied by a subject with a felony warrant.

The Toledo Police Department terminated its pursuit.

Officers from the Perrysburg Township Police Department located the RV traveling south on I-75 and attempted to initiate a traffic stop but the driver failed to stop. The pursuit continued south of Ohio 582, where troopers from the Bowling Green post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol took over the pursuit.

The pursuit covered approximately 62 miles on I-75 through Wood County, Hancock County and Allen County. The top speed of the pursuit was 80 mph. All the tires on the RV except the left rear were deflated by spike strips set out by troopers from the Lima Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The driver pulled over on his own near milepost 125 in Lima, where he was taken into custody after a brief standoff.

The driver was identified Larry D. Keith Jr., 38, of Maryville, Tennessee. He was transported to Lima Memorial by EMS for evaluation of a medical condition. Upon his release from the hospital, he was transported to the Wood County Justice Center, where he was jailed on charges of failure to comply and improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted during the pursuit by the Perrysburg Township Police Department, Wood County Sheriff’s Department, Hancock County Sheriff’s Department, Findlay Police Department, Allen County Sheriff’s Department and Beaverdam Fleet Towing.
