To celebrate the life of movie and TV actress Betty White, who would have turned 100 years old on Jan. 17, and to celebrate Valentine’s Day, the Wood County Committee on Aging will present an after-lunch program. John R. Blinn, host and film buff, will present remarks and White’s motion picture, “The Lost Valentine,” at the Wood County Senior Center, 140 S. Grove St., Bowling Green, on Monday, Feb. 14 at 1 p.m.
The Lost Valentine (2011) stars Jennifer Love Hewitt, Betty White and Sean Faris. The story follows the characters of a TV journalist, Susan Allison (Hewitt), working on the profile of a woman, Caroline Thomas (White), whose husband, naval aviator Lt. Neil Thomas, was declared MIA 60 years ago during World War II. Susan immediately clashes with Caroline’s grandson Lucas Thomas (Faris), when he overhears her referring to the potential story as a fluff piece, rather than the very personal story it is, since she herself doubts if forever true love exists.
She apologizes, and begins the interview spending time with both Caroline and Lucas. Her developing friendship with Lucas makes her have doubts about her relationship with her almost fiancé Andrew Hawthorne, a photographer who is frequently absent overseas.
However, Betty steals the movie with her powerful portrayal of a military wife visiting the train station each Feb. 14th in symbolic beloved remembrance of sending her husband off to war. Flashbacks provide vivid memories of their long-ago short life together.
