Sheryl Mattox, 68, of Van Buren, died on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at her residence. She was born in Bowling Green on July 5, 1958. She married David DeLancy and they were divorced. She later married her loving husband of 35 years, Ray Mattox on September 27, 1991 and he survives.
Sheryl is also survived by her beloved children: Nita DeLancy of North Baltimore, Emily (Nic) Lennard of North Baltimore, Adam DeLancy of North Baltimore, Baley Thiel of North Baltimore, Jennifer (Grant) Saum of AR, Jason (Ally) Mattox of Arcadia, and Briana DeLancy of Bloomdale; brothers: Dick (Yvonne) Kepling of Weston and Dale Light of the Philippines; sister, Pat Walter of Napoleon; sisters-in-law: Judy Mattox, Chris (Mike) Thatcher, and Sandi Martin all of Findlay; 19 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Marilyn Eichar; mother & father-in-law, Barb and Ron Mattox; brother, Jeff Light; sister, Pam Schweibert; brothers-in-law: Bob Mattox and Jim Mattox; and her best friend, Joni Clark.
Sheryl Mattox will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose warmth, humor, and love for others touched the lives of everyone who knew her.
Sheryl attended North Baltimore High School and retired from Ball Metal in 2011 after many years of service. She was also a member of 50 North, where she enjoyed the friendships and fellowship she found there.
A true jokester at heart, Sheryl loved making people laugh and bringing smiles to those around her. She never met a stranger and had a special way of making everyone feel welcome. Her outgoing personality and kind heart blessed her with many wonderful friends throughout her life.
Above all, Sheryl treasured her family. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Some of the family’s fondest memories will be the golf cart rides she enjoyed taking with her grandchildren and the special times they shared together.
Sheryl loved the Lord, and her faith was an important part of her life. She will be deeply missed by her family, her many friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her laughter, loving spirit, delicious cooking, and ability to bring joy to those around her will remain a cherished part of her legacy.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at SMITH-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, North Baltimore, with Pastor Jim Baney officiating. A funeral dinner will follow at the North Baltimore American Legion Post 539.
Visitation will be held from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m., Monday, August 31, 2026, at SMITH-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, North Baltimore.
