After studying in Italy, Ian Dawson has returned to the United States and created a sculpture titled “Harmony” that was recently installed at the City Administration Building. The goal of the piece is to inspire people to be happy, to make art, and to find balance. Using the colors of the chakras – purple, blue, green, yellow, orange, and red – Dawson created a piece made of glass and metal for the public to enjoy.
“I did it to represent hope, peace, happiness, and alignment with one’s self,” Dawson said. “With all the chaos that’s going on in the world, I felt that it was something that the world [would] need.”
“I feel, as artists, our job is to make the world a prettier place, to inspire people, to get other people into art, to the young kids inspired into art instead of on their phones,” he continued.
“We thought that bringing art into the building would bring some life into the building,” Mayor Mike Aspacher said. “This meets that criteria.”
In addition to Dawson’s sculpture, which will be displayed for at least one year, a mosaic mural funded by the Bowling Green Community Foundation and the Greater Toledo Community Foundation will be installed later in 2026.
“Thank you for sharing it with the community,” Aspacher said of the sculpture. “We’ll proudly display it in the building.”
