Steven Mathew Mendieta Sr., 46, of Portage, Ohio passed away on January 22 at 11:15am. He was an organ donor whose selfless decision will help and heal numerous lives. An honor walk was rendered at St. Vincent Hospital in Toledo before his passing. He was born on April 16, 1976 in Toledo, Ohio to Judith (Harris) Miller and the late Demetrio Mendieta.
Steven married Hope (Vargas) Mendieta on March 26, 2001 and she survives. He is also survived by his mother; children: Marina Mendieta, Steven Mendieta Jr, Sid Serrato, Samantha Serrato; grandchildren Maristella, Sid Jr., and Miles; a sister Kari Jackson. He is preceded in death by his father; sister KimberLee Johnston.
Steven attended Waite High School in Toledo and later took carpentry classes at Penta Career Center. He was a dedicated hard working carpenter for Local 351 for twenty years and last worked at Magna Vehtek. He also worked at BP Refinery where most of his work friends and carpentry friends often called him Steve-O. He enjoyed spending time with his family, collecting classic cars, walking his two dogs Myla and Angel, cooking (oftentimes making a mess in the process), and being outdoors. Everyone who knew Steven knew he was a dedicated hard worker, brought light to any room he walked in and could bring a smile to anyone’s face. He was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church.
