Sylvia Anderson, 84, of Bowling Green, Ohio passed away Tuesday April 24, 2018. Having received Jesus Christ as her personal Savior later in life, she is now joyfully alive in the Lord’s presence. She was born October 25, 1933 in Meadville, Pennsylvania to David and Tamazine (Kersteter) Crum. She married her beloved husband of 61 years, Thomas D. Anderson on September 1, 1956 at Old Stone Church in Meadville. He survives in Bowling Green.
Sylvia was a graduate of Meadville High School. She later graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Home Economics, majoring in Commercial Consumer Services. She was a member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority. During the summer of 1955 she traveled with the Penn State Chapel Choir on a six-week European concert tour.
She was with East Ohio Gas Company in Cleveland, Ohio for one year. She and Tom then moved to Lincoln, Nebraska where she worked for three years as a Home Economist with Central Electric and Gas Company. They then spent five years in Geneseo, New York and finally moved to Bowling Green in 1964.
Sylvia taught at Wood Lane School from 1969-1972 and completed some graduate studies at that time. Later, she was employed at BGSU in several positions from 1973 until her retirement in 1996.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Bowling Green, the H.W. Investment Club, Wood County Hospital Guild and a past member of the Four Seasons Garden Club.
She is also survived by her three loving children: Susan Anderson of Bowling Green, Ohio; Stefan Anderson of Greendale, Wisconsin; Kathryn Derrenberger of Delaware, Ohio. She is also survived by one grandson Joshua Anderson of Greendale, Wisconsin and brother David Crum Jr of Gaithersburg, Maryland. Sylvia, deeply loved by her family, was devoted to both her family and friends. Her warm, welcoming heart will always be remembered.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Susan Crum and Tamazine Kinneman and granddaughter Audrey Anderson.
She enjoyed her pets, travel, cooking, investing, decorating, gardening and keeping up with friends and family, and always endeavoring to make others’ lives happier.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday May 19, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Dunn Funeral Home, located in the Historical District of Bowling Green at 408 West Wooster St. Pastor Jaryd Motsinger will officiate. Visitation will be held Saturday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be given in her memory to Wood County Mental Health Services, Wood County Humane Society, The American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
