The Bowling Green State University Department of Theatre and Film will present “This is Not a Pipe Dream” at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 3, and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 6, in the Conrad Choral Room at the Wolfe Center for the Arts.

Written by Barry Kornhauser, “This is Not a Pipe Dream” is a family-friendly production based on the early life of artist René Magritte as he discovers his passion for painting and later achieves his dream. Throughout the play, examples from Magritte’s life are played out and paralleled with certain paintings.

With an abundance of wordplay, slapstick repetitions and witty one-liners, the play pairs fun theatricality with Magritte’s history and art to create a wonderful production for young audiences, especially for children 8 and older.

Directed by Heather Utsler-Smith, “This is Not a Pipe Dream” features costume design by Margaret McCubbin, scenic design by Bradford Clark, scenic art and props by Kelly Mangan, wardrobe by Laurel Daman and technical direction by Dan Mangan. The production team also includes BGSU students Natalie Avery and Abigail Hart as stage managers, and scenic design by Leon Wang.

The cast includes James Wang as the Anonymous Man, Donovan Callahan as an Anonymous Man and the Stage Manager, Cameron Willis as an Anonymous Man and René Magritte, Destiny Lee as an Anonymous Man as well as the Mother, a Teacher and Georgette, Nick Adams as an Anonymous Man and the Father and Regina Wolf as the Interlocutor.
