Thunderstorms headed this way

The Wood County Emergency Management Agency has issued the following advisory:

All of Ohio is under an upgraded risk for severe weather, with Wood County currently under an “Enhanced Risk” (Level 3 of 5), as is the western half of Ohio.

Two rounds of severe weather are expected, with the first occurring around noon. This initial round is expected to be a typical Ohio thunderstorm. After it moves through, skies will likely clear, leaving behind humid conditions with temperatures in the 70s. If this happens, it will create the instability needed for more severe weather. Overall confidence is medium to high for pockets of damaging winds and large hail. Confidence is lower regarding the potential for discrete storms ahead of the main line, which could pose a greater risk of severe weather. Localized flooding is also a possibility.

Current estimates:

  • Large Hail: 15-29% (Isolated cells could produce golf ball-sized hail)
  • Damaging Winds: 30-44% (60-74 mph, with swaths of 75+ mph possible)
  • Tornadoes: 5-9%

On Saturday, heavy rain will move into our area, bringing an additional 2″ of rain potential. Combined with the rain expected on Sunday and Wednesday, some flooding is anticipated.

We will continue to monitor and provide updates as appropriate.
