Two Michigan teenagers were arrested in Bowling Green Thursday after they were reportedly found in a stolen vehicle with about $6,000 in stolen cash, plus gold and silver coins.
Bowling Green Police Division’s automatic license plate reader hit on the stolen vehicle, a 2012 Jeep Liberty, around 3:30 p.m., headed south on North Main Street at Newton Road.
Dispatch reported that two runaway juveniles, a 16-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl, had allegedly stolen the vehicle from the girl’s family in Cadillac, Michigan.
Police located the vehicle in a BGSU parking lot, and reportedly found the two teens pulling a blanket over themselves in the back of the Jeep. According to the police report, the vehicle was packed with belongings. A silver case in the back of the Jeep reportedly contained a large amount of cash, plus gold and silver.
The teens were charged with felony receiving stolen property and taken to Wood County Juvenile Detention Center.
The teens reportedly told police they ran because the girl’s mom keeps trying to split them up. They also said they tried to get a hotel room, but the clerk just kept the $100 and didn’t give them a room. So they went to the Bowling Green Meijer store and bought a pillow and blanket.
The boy told police he only had his temporary driving permit, and asked if that would be a problem. Police advised that was not an issue, but that the teen had bigger issues to be concerned about. The parents of both teens were contacted.
