Volunteers and donations sought for Project Connect

Continuum of Care Wood County is hosting its seventh annual Project Connect Wood County. PCWC is a one-day, one-stop event designed to provide a broad range of free services to individuals and families at risk of homelessness or experiencing poverty.

This event will be held on Oct. 16, from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 315 S. College Ave., Bowling Green.

In 2018, 271 households, representing 768 individuals, attended PCWC with many being families with children. Among the services offered by more than 50 providers will be hot meals, haircuts; dental, medical and mental health care; help with substance abuse; IDs, employment assistance, and housing.

Three hundred volunteers will be needed for a successful PCWC in 2019. The event still needs about 60 host volunteers for the morning of the event or for all day. Go to https://tinyurl.com/pcwc2019 to register as a volunteer to be a host who guides guests through the event.

All volunteers are required to attend a brief orientation which has proven to be beneficial to past host volunteers. Dates and times for orientations are included in the online portal noted above.

Items needed for the event are winter clothing items and personal care products for all ages: new or gently used winter coats, boots, hats, mittens and scarves; shampoo, deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, razors, combs, hairbrushes, diapers and feminine products. These items may be dropped off at The Fringe Thrift Store during their hours of business, in Woodland Mall. Thrift Store hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
