Wade N. Shinew, 89, of Bowling Green, Ohio passed away Friday November 25, 2016. He was born on November 26, 1926 in Portage, Ohio to Thomas Ellwood and Gladys (Hiser) Shinew. He married Joanne Delph on August 16, 1953 and she survives in Bowling Green.
Wade served his country in the United States Navy during World War II on the U.S.S. Essex aircraft carrier in the Pacific. He worked as a music teacher for 30 years in Hoytville, Liberty Milton and Rossford schools. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Bowling Green. He loved to travel, taking numerous vacations with his family. Wade enjoyed gardening, playing piano and was an avid exerciser at the Rec Center. He also enjoyed attending concerts and the artist series and was a long time supporter of BGSU Arts and BGSU Women’s basketball. The role he cherished most was as a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Along with his wife of 63 years, Joanne, Wade is survived by his daughters Michelle Shinew (Mark Gresham) of Columbus, Ohio, Cindy (Dick) Maas of Bowling Green, Ohio, Kim Shinew (Rich Weston) of Champaign, Illinois and Dawn Shinew (Rick Busselle) of Bowling Green, Ohio, eight grandchildren Addie, Callie, Ben, Jon, Hannah, Luther, Will and Lucy and a growing number of great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his sister Keitha Grover.
Visitation will be held on Sunday November 27, 2016 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Dunn Funeral Home, located in the Historical District of Bowling Green at 408 West Wooster Street. A private graveside service will be held on Monday November 28, 2016 at Portage Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in his memory to the Brookdale Employee Support Fund.
