“Decent housing is something that can easily be taken for granted and affordable housing is essential to be able to afford other basic necessities” stated Executive Director Mark Ohashi to begin the project blessing event held on Wednesday afternoon (Sept. 29).

The future homeowner, local leaders and Habitat supporters gathered to celebrate the building of the third decent and affordable home on Manville Avenue in Bowling Green.

This home is a part of a project that started in 2018 to build three Habitat homes on land the City of Bowling Green donated to Habitat. Build three in BG was an effort to support the city’s community action plan of revitalizing the neighborhood.

During the program, Mayor Aspacher shared his appreciation for the partnership with Habitat stating: “Together we are making a difference.”

Dr. Joe Whitehead from Bowling Green State University also shared remarks, stating: “On campus we talk about being a university for the public good. And we ask what does that really mean? This is what it means.”

Students from BGSU have been an excellent source of volunteers for this project that allows for hands on experience and the opportunity to better the community.

Those present also heard from, future homeowner, Anastasia who shared a heartfelt thanks to all who have made this once in a lifetime opportunity possible for her family.

A prayer was given to bless the project. To conclude a group of supporters then helped to stand up the first wall for the home to celebrate the next phase of the project.

The home is planned to be completed in December 2021.
