WGTE Public Media announces At Home Learning. Beginning March 30, 2020 at 7 a.m. through 6 p.m. Monday – Friday, WGTE Public Media television programming will change to educational programs designed to help and encourage all Ohio and Michigan students and teachers to continue learning at home during the Ohio Governor DeWine and Michigan Governor Whitmer’s respective closures of schools.

WGTE Public Media and Ohio’s other seven public television stations understand the needs that students are facing in not being in the classroom and whom may not have internet access or computer hardware at home to participate in distance learning programs offered by their schools. WGTE is making a temporary but necessary change to its daily weekday television schedule by offering special educational programming that offers high-quality, grade-appropriate learning materials to students so that they can continue their important studies.

These programs will be available on WGTE HD channel (30.1) to help meet the educational needs for high school students, older middle school and elementary students as well as younger elementary students. The programming will remain in effect until school resumes.

WGTE will continue to air its PBS Kids content 24/7 on its PBS Kids channel (30.2) for our early learners.

“In this unprecedented time, Ohio educators, parents, and caregivers are doing their best to keep learning going for students in the midst of the coronavirus crisis. I am humbled and grateful that all eight (8) of Ohio’s public broadcasting stations have stepped up as major partners committed to delivering high-quality, grade-appropriate learning to students, complementing that amazing effort being made by Ohio’s schools and districts, “said State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Paolo DeMaria. “This ‘At Home Learning Initiative’ crosses the digital divide and provides yet another tool in the toolbox, ensuring learning doesn’t stop just because school buildings are closed.”

“WGTE is excited and pleased to collaborate with Ohio’s seven (7) public television stations to support teachers, students, and caregivers during these challenging times. WGTE’s broadcast of At Home Learning programming will provide the highest quality educational programs and learning materials from PBS LearningMedia (pbslearningmedia.org) and other sources to ensure that all students and especially those who do have internet access or computer hardware for online learning, can continue to learn and use this time as productively as possible.” Marlon P. Kiser, President and CEO, WGTE Public Media.
