What’s up (or down) with barstools in BG downtown in the past week

Early Saturday morning, a barstool was thrown off the balcony of a bar in the 100 block of North Main Street, damaging a car parked below.

This is the third time in a week that Bowling Green Police have been called to handle issues involving barstools. The first ended in the arrest of a man who allegedly bit off a large chunk of another man’s ear during a fight over a barstool in a downtown bar. The second involved a man found walking down East Wooster Street carrying a barstool he allegedly stole from a downtown bar.

And at 2:38 a.m. on Saturday (April 20), an employee of a bar in the 100 block of North Main Street called to report a patron had tossed a barstool off the balcony, hitting her vehicle parked below.

She said the man who threw the stool and his friends were kicked out of the bar.

Police were unable to locate the man. Downtown video cameras were not pointed high enough to capture the stool toss from the balcony. But video from the bar reportedly shows the man chucking the chair.

Later on Saturday, around 9:44 p.m., the man shown in the video came to the police station. He told police he and his friends were on a BGSU senior bar crawl. He stated he didn’t remember much from the night before, but said his friends told him to reach out to the police division.

The man was apologetic while talking to police and said numerous times he wanted to pay for damages to the vehicle. After meeting with police, the man went to the bar to speak with the management. The owner of the vehicle agreed to work with the man on payment for the damages.
