William “Bill” R. Hofner, 68, of Bowling Green, OH, died October 25, 2017 at Bridge Hospice Care Center in Bowling Green, OH. He was born August 17, 1949 in Toledo, OH to Richard J. & Frances M. (Rebbe) Hofner.
Bill started working at an early age on the family farm with his parents and siblings. At the age of 14 he started working at Riverby Golf Course. In high school he studied Mechanics at Penta Career Center and interned at Al Smith Chrysler Dealership throughout his schooling. In 1968 Bill was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served through 1972. After the service he went back to work at Al Smiths until he started his own business in 1976, Hofner Grading. He continued that business until his death.
Bill enjoyed working, fishing and hunting, snowmobiling, and spending long weekends on the family property in Hocking County, OH. He mostly enjoyed just spending time with his family and doing things for them and with them. Bill had a gift for delegating jobs to his family to keep them busy and he loved to “gab” with anyone he met during the day.
He married Cindy A. (Leady) on October 7, 1978. She survives along with children, Andrew R. Hofner and Carey A. Hofner, siblings, Ray (Rebecca) Hofner, Martha Rupp, Garry (Iola) Hofner, Larry (Linda) Hofner, and Edward (Katholene) Hofner. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Joseph (Freda) Hofner, Robert (Judy) Hofner and brother-in-law, Kenneth Rupp.
Visitation will take place Monday, October 30, 2017 from 4:00 -8:00 p.m. at Peinert-Dunn Funeral Home, Tontogany, OH. Funeral Services will be Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Pastor Mike Kelley will officiate. Burial will follow at Washington Twp. Cemetery.
