Ruth Garvey

Ruth Evelyn (Walker)Garvey, 84, arrived in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ Saturday, August 17, 2019 at 12:48pm from the Wood County Hospital ICU UNIT surrounded by her adoring family and friends after a long illness. Sis. Ruth was born on February 1, 1935 to parents Rev. Raymond Eugene(Gene) and Fern A.(Robbins). The last of five siblings to make her journey to be with her parents, was active in the Pentecostal Church of God organization as the Youth leader of the former Faith Pentecostal Tabernacle(New Horizons PC of God),720 Second Street, Bowling Green where Bro. Walker established the church with two other minister friends back in the 1940s. She also was employed by the former GC Murphy Company and Newbury’s Department Store in downtown Bowling Green. She left Bowling Green in 1961 to attend SBC(Southern Bible College), Beaumont, TX, (now Messenger College, Joplin, MO) affiliated with PC of God, to pursue a degree in Childhood Education where she enjoyed being a cook. Then returning to Bowling Green, three years later, on June 27, 1964, she married the love of her life, Edward Thomas Garvey who passed away on October 14, 1998. Sis. Ruth also worked as a cook in the Bowling Green School System in the early 1970s. She enjoyed reading her Bible daily, working on word search puzzles, and watching television. Previous to being at Wood County Hospital, she was in therapy at Woodhaven in Bowling Green. Sis. Ruth is survived by Daughter Cindy Garvey, Bowling Green, Son, Wayne (Linda)Garvey, Whitehouse,  Sisters-in-Law, Sharon Walker,Toledo, Judi Treat Walker, Houston, TX, Brother-in-Law, Clarence Carruthers, Battle Ground, WA, Sister: Maxine Hunt(Dick) Beaverson, Bowling Green, Brothers: Paul(Karen)Hunt, Bowling Green, Roland(LuAnn)Hunt, Weston, Granddaughter, Stacy Garvey(Scott) Robertson, Grandson, Faron Garvey, Bowling Green, Nieces: Deb Glenn, Jerry City, Pam Walker(Jay) Reynolds, Blue Springs, MO, Angela Walker, Galveston, TX, Misty Walker(Michael) Bland, Santa Fe, TX, Karleen Carruthers, Battle Ground, WA, Nephews: Doug Glenn, Jerry City, Daryl and Brad Walker, Toledo and many other nieces and nephews too numerous to mention that she loved dearly. Sis. Ruth was a former member also of Calvary Church, Toledo from 1994 to 2008, Word of Truth Christian Center, Bowling Green, 2008 to 2017, and attended, until her illness began, Faith Hope Love Christian Church, Bowling Green, where Willie Miller is the Pastor who will be officiating the funeral service. Sis. Ruth was preceded in death by Sisters: Lois Walker Glenn, Nancy Walker Carruthers, Brothers: David and Bob Walker, Son, Norman Garvey, and Grandson Brad Garvey.

A Graveside Service for Ruth will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2019 at 11:00am in the Plain Township Cemetery, 15360 Liberty Hi Rd, Bowing Green, Ohio.
