Former Bowling Green Council Member William J. Herald filed the maximum number of signatures to run for the Fourth Ward position on Bowling Green City Council. Herald stated, “While faithfully attending City Council meetings for the past ten years, I have sought to assist by drawing on my previous eight years of Council experience, my decades of business experience, my public administration education, and my community involvement. I’d like to be of further service to the citizens with a return to Council.”

In the past, Herald served the citizens of the Fourth Ward as their Council Member. He was President Pro-Tem of Council, served on all seven of its committees at one time or another, and chaired over half of the committees. While on City Council, Herald held quarterly meetings each of the thirty-two quarters to allow citizens an additional forum to have updates and to voice their concerns. Herald also circulated questionnaires and provided newsletters to citizens to update them on city matters and allow them an additional means to voice their concerns and ask questions.

Herald stated, “Council Members should actively seek to interact with fellow citizens in order to better represent, encourage accessibility, and assist in their interaction with their local government.”

Herald has twenty years of business experience. He is currently a lead data scientist for Truven Health, an IBM company. He has previously held other analytic positions including director-level management and systems analysis. In addition, Herald also has over ten years’ experience as a full-time teacher with Bowling Green State University and the University of Toledo.

Herald’s education includes a Bachelor of Science degree from BGSU, a Master of Science degree in Applied Statistics from BGSU, a Master of Arts degree in Public Administration/Policy from BGSU, and a Ph.D. in Public Policy and Management from Ohio State University.

Herald has been a Bowling Green resident for forty years. He and his wife, Karen, have three children, Jonathan, Joel, and Amy, and four grandchildren. Karen teaches Kindergarten. Bill and Karen are long-time members of Covenant Church in Bowling Green.
