On Thursday evening, May 2nd, a reception for the 1st place winners of the 37th Writing Contest sponsored by the Women’s Club of Bowling Green was held at the Wood County Public Library.

The program opened with a musical selection by violinist, Alex Munson, BGSU freshman student.

Parents, teachers and families enjoyed the fourteen pieces of outstanding prose and poetry submitted by students from the public and parochial schools in BG, grades one thru high school.  Chairs, Kathy East and Barbara Applebaum, thanked schools and teachers for their continued support of this creative writing and literacy goal of the club.

Creative topics ranged from quests to colors to moving from Ohio to goldfish crackers to life’s loving memories to lessons from friendships and more. Honorees received certificates, a $15 dollar monetary gift and a flower for their teacher and a balloon to celebrate. Refreshments, provided by club members, were served.

The contest, judged by club members, also recognized 27 additional students with 2nd, 3rd and honorable mention awards. All others who entered received a participation certificate.  The Women’s Club of Bowling Green is a part of the Ohio Federation of Women’s Clubs.
