Cold weather advisory issued for this weekend

Scattered light snow showers will move into Wood County after 5 p.m. today, Feb. 5. Snow flurries are expected over the nighttime hours. Snowfall is expected to increase between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m., which could make the morning commute more hazardous.

On Friday afternoon, Feb. 6, winds will increase to 15 – 20 mph, with gusts around 35 mph. These wind gusts have the potential to create snow squalls with quick snow accumulation on roadways as well as low visibility conditions.

Temperatures will fall quickly late Friday night into Saturday, Feb. 7. Around midnight Saturday morning, it is forecasted with a low of 5 F and a wind chill of -5 F. The National Weather Service has the area as a Cold Weather Advisory for the time period of 1 a.m. Saturday until noon Saturday. Subzero wind chills will remain all day Saturday through noon on Sunday, Feb. 8. Cold wind chills can cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.
