Business reports alleged scam from person impersonating a BGPD officer

Bowling Green Police Division was alerted to an attempted scam at a North Main Street business on April 7, after an employee received a call from someone identifying himself as Lt. John Lackley with BGPD.

The alleged scammer said he was conducting an audit of the store for counterfeit bills. He reportedly asked the employee to go to the back of the store, and not tell her co-workers. The man on the phone then told her the business owner was with him and aware of the audit.

The employee saw the owner standing behind the counter at the front of the business, and she ended the phone call.

Shortly after, the employee got another call from “Lackley” on her personal phone. He reportedly continued talking about the counterfeit bills audit. The employee hung up and reported the calls to the real BGPD.
