Judith Lee Lashaway, of Wood County, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family, on July 6, 2026. Judy was born on June 10, 1957, in Buffalo, NY, to John F. (Jack) and Gladys Smith.
Judy was the cherished wife and lifelong love of John Lowell Lashaway, with whom she celebrated 50 years of marriage this very month. Their love story began in high school, where John won her heart with his baby blue 1964 Ford Fairlane. He later taught Judy how to drive in that very car, a lesson they always laughed about, especially after she ruined the transmission.
Their love continued to flourish, and they were married on July 24, 1976, at the Episcopal Church in Bowling Green, Ohio. Over the next five decades, they created a life filled with unwavering love, laughter, and devotion, making countless memories that will be treasured forever.
From camping trips to Hocking Hills, Hamilton Lake stays with family, summer days spent by the backyard pool, and extravagant holidays and birthdays where no one was ever forgotten, Judy and John filled their home with love, generosity, and traditions that brought their family and friends together. Their greatest gift was the life they built and the memories they created with the people they loved most.
Judy was the mother to Heather Lynn Lashaway and her wife, Sarah; Holly Michelle Lashaway Mazur and her husband, Andrew; and John Christopher Lashaway and his wife, Molly. She celebrated the milestones, laughter, and everyday moments with her children. Her love was constant, unconditional, and the foundation of the family she cherished so deeply.
Judy absolutely adored her grandchildren: Jocelyn, Beauford, Isabella, Mossis, Quinn, Zachariah, and Jude. They were the light of her life, and nothing made her happier than watching them grow into the remarkable individuals they are today. Her grandchildren loved her fiercely, and she loved each of them with all her heart. Whether she was cheering from the sidelines at a game or regatta, celebrating their accomplishments, encouraging their unique interests, or simply spending quality time together, Judy made each grandchild feel deeply loved, supported, and cherished. She had a remarkable way of making every one of them feel special, creating memories and traditions they will carry with them for the rest of their lives.
Judy built lasting relationships throughout the community while proudly managing her family’s business, Rapid Printing, for more than 30 years. Known for her warm smile and caring nature, she treated customers like friends and made everyone feel welcome.
Her compassionate heart and deep desire to care for others eventually led her on a new journey in nursing. She earned her nursing degree from Owens Community College and found her calling in wound care. Through dedication and continued education, she became a certified wound care nurse, combining her clinical expertise with the kindness and compassion that defined her throughout her life.
Seeking warmer winters and plenty of sunshine, Judy and John made their home in Florida, where she was able to be closer to her sisters. She also brought her mother with her, joyfully reuniting the Smith girls once again.
Judy shared an especially close bond with her sisters, lovingly known as “The Three Sisters”—Linda (Tom) Briggle and Cynthia (Stephen) Sease. Together, they filled their lives with laughter, unforgettable adventures, and memories that will forever bind them. Though Judy is no longer physically beside them, her sisters will carry her spirit into every new adventure, honoring the joy the three of them always shared. And in true “Three Sisters” fashion, we’re certain John will continue receiving their signature gifts and guides to life.
Judy grew up with two older brothers, Larry (Barb) Smith and Wayne Smith, who never missed an opportunity to tease their little sister. Judy, however, could always hold her own, giving as good as she got with her quick wit and spirited personality. If you knew Judy, you know she had it covered and never needed much backup.
After being diagnosed with Primary Biliary Cholangitis (PBC), Judy faced significant health challenges that ultimately required a liver transplant. In one of the greatest gifts a mother could receive, her son, John Christopher (“JC”), became her living liver donor. This year marked the fourth anniversary of her transplant—a milestone that filled her family with gratitude. In every step of her journey, John, JC, and her daughters lovingly cared for her, surrounding her with unwavering support, strength, and endless love.
She leaves behind her devoted husband, John; her three children and their spouses; her seven beloved grandchildren; her sisters and brother; nieces and nephews; extended family; and many dear friends who will forever remember Judy for her intrepid spirit, giving heart, and unconditional love.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Gladys Smith, and her brother, Wayne Smith.
Although our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing that Judy’s love, kindness, and unwavering devotion will continue to guide us. Her memory will live on forever in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, laughter, and love that will be cherished by her family and friends for generations to come.
A gathering to honor the light and love she brought to this world will be announced at a later date.
The family is deeply grateful for the love, prayers, and support received during this difficult time. They also welcome and cherish the stories, laughter, and memories shared by all who knew and loved Judy, as each memory helps keep her spirit alive.
