Phyllis Jean Bailey

Phyllis Jean Bailey, 94, of Pemberville, passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 at Otterbein Pemberville SeniorLife Community. She was born in Northwood, OH on March 28, 1930, to Eugene and Orpha (Mansfield) Hoffmann. She married Harold Alfred Bailey on May 24, 1951 in Angola, IN. Phyllis and Harold raised 4 children and celebrated 49 years of marriage together before Harold’s passing in 2000.

In addition to being a homemaker, Phyllis taught piano out of her home for 30 plus years. She also was the church organist for St. John’s United Church of Christ in Genoa for 30 plus years. She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Luckey, a past member of St. Mark’s in Bowling Green. Phyllis enjoyed playing the piano and still played regularly. She had a great passion for and attended various events at the Pemberville Opera House. However, her greatest love was spending time with her family.

Phyllis is survived by her children: Susan (Ronald) Kiefer of Sylvania, Mark (Janet) Bailey of Durham, NC, Julie Parkinson of Grove City, OH, and John (Carol) Bailey of Pemberville. Phyllis was grandmother to 8, and great-grandmother to 12. In addition to her husband Harold, she was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Robert Hoffmann, sisters: Lorine Hoffmann, Mildred Stebli, and great-granddaughter, Kaylee Bailey.

Family and friends will be received 11 a.m.-12 p.m., with a Memorial Service at 12 noon, Friday, October 18, 2024 at Otterbein Pemberville SeniorLife Enrichment Center, 20311 Pemberville RD, Pemberville, OH. Officiating will be Rev. Peter Johnston. Phyllis will be laid to rest next to Harold in Clay Township Cemetery Genoa, OH.
