For more than 60 years, the BG Kiwanis Pancake Day has been serving up pancakes and sausage twice a year in the Bowling Green community. Traditionally, the organization serves about 1,000 pancake meals that feature all-you-can-eat blueberry and plain pancakes, sausage, Biggby Coffee, milk and juice.
The fall pancake day is this Saturday, Oct. 31, from 7 a.m. to noon in the BG High School cafeteria. Tickets may be purchased from BG Kiwanis members or at the door Saturday morning.
The pancake breakfasts raise money for about 25 service projects each year. Some examples include the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, the Cocoon, Black Swamp Arts Festival Youth Arts Village, the Brown Bag Food Project, about $12,000 worth of college scholarships for BG and Eastwood students, BG July 4th Fireworks, Grandparents Raising Grandkids, Leadership Clubs in elementary schools, middle school and high school, BGSU Circle K Club, Aktion Club, Dear Santa Society, officers of the year, Inspirational Educators, and more.
Several BG high school students from the art department will be providing free face painting.
There will be a 50/50 raffle drawing but for the past couple of years, the big draw has been the raffle basket drawings. Fourteen baskets will be raffled on Saturday with a variety of themes such as:
